The fierce rivalry between CF Monterrey and UANL Tigres took another turn after an injured goalkeeper was seen on camera shining a laser pointer at his counterpart.

Monterrey has filed a formal complaint with Liga MX’s disciplinary committee against Nahuel Guzman, who plays for Tigres, and was seen in multiple videos allegedly shining a green laser pointer on the field from a suite.

Telemundo was the first to report the news of the complaint, while The Athletic reports that an investigation is underway.

A Liga MX spokesperson also told The Athletic that the league’s disciplinary committee will decide whether or not to conduct their own investigation at a meeting on Monday.

Guzman is the typical starting keeper for Tigres and is known for his mischievous behavior both on and off pitch – but he was injured for the match. Past incidents include him performing a magic trick before a penalty kick, hiding under a tarp after being sent off, and multiple incidents of fighting with other players.

Unfortunately for Guzman, his recent antics did not work as Monterrey came back from two goals down to draw 3-3 in the fixture known locally as the Clasico Regiomontano.

In the complaint, Guzman is accused of directing the laser at Monterrey keeper Esteban Andrada.

After the match, Andrada went on an expletive-filled rant on Instagram (which included homophobic slurs) that criticized Guzman’s behavior.

Multiple videos on social media show a man appearing to resemble Guzman in a luxury suite with his arms crossed before a green laser beam appears to emanate from his left hand.

That includes security camera video (the first link above) from the Estadio BBVA, Monterrey’s home stadium.

Guzman was critical of officials in an Instagram post of his own suggesting that Monterrey’s equalizer in stoppage time should not have counted – arguing that the corner kick that the goal stemmed from didn’t have the ball properly set on the corner marker. He also complained that the kick took place in the tenth minute of added time, despite there only being eight minutes added on.

Laser pointers are generally not allowed in stadiums – but they are occasionally used in Latin America to distract opposition players.
