Manchester United plan to go shopping this summer, but one of their preferred signings would just as happily play for one of their fiercest Premier League rivals despite his history with Erik ten Hag.

United are reportedly set to offload up to 15 players once the new Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led regime is in full swing.

The INEOS chief, previously the UK’s richest man, has paid more than £1.3 billion for a 27.7 per cent stake in the Red Devils that will give him ‘sporting control’ at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s job as manager might not be safe with United currently floundering in seventh in the Premier League table, 10 points off the European places, while Ratcliffe is reportedly a fan of former Brighton and Chelsea man Graham Potter.

But If Ten Hag holds on, one of his top transfer targets is Brian Brobbey, who he had at Ajax in between 2017 and 2021 before the striker left for RB Leipzig.

“I think I’m doing quite well,” said the 17-goal striker who is still only 22. “I still want to achieve many great things in my career, such as playing for a very big football club.

“Real Madrid is a beautiful club. Arsenal, Manchester United…

“How much am I worth? After the European Championships, €80m. Going to the European Championships is also a dream of mine.”

Brobbey has one cap for the Netherlands, making his debut in the final half hour of their Euro ’24 qualifying win against Greece in October, in which Virgil van Dijk scored the winner with an injury-time penalty.
