Tottenham are the Premier League’s ‘Spursiest’ team ever, but there’s a positive

Tottenham fans have had to face the brunt of their ‘Spursy’ tag over the years after coming so close, yet so far to winning silverware since 2008.

New data on their Premier League success from winning positions is something that strengthens that title though, but Spurs do in fact shine in another department.

Bookmakers Sky Bet have crunched the numbers and found that the north London side have conceded 451 points when leading matches.

This is the most in the history of the Premier League although Everton are close behind on 449, with Chelsea dropping 446 points.

However, Spurs’ record of points gained from losing positions in the top flight since 1992 is something to behold.

They have secured 427 points when it looked as though they were on course for defeat, with 13-time Premier League champions Manchester United one behind them.

Courtesy of their draw against Brentford and wins over Burnley and Sheffield United, seven of those have come this season.

The 2-1 victory against the Blades in particular made Premier League history – the latest comeback win thanks to Dejan Kulusevski’s winner in the tenth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Liverpool’s nine points from losing positions is the most for the season thus far, with Arsenal closest behind Spurs on four.

On the flip side, it’s Brentford who are the league’s biggest strugglers from winning positions during the current campaign.

The Bees have lost six points when leading, with Bournemouth, Sheffield United and West Ham all on five.

Of all the teams to have played in every Premier League season since its inception, United have lost the least points when leading with 262.

However, especially after the late drama in north London on Saturday, it’s Spurs who seems to provide the entertainment when both leading and losing.
