Tuchel criticizes Müller's performance against Union despite brace

Although Thomas Müller scored a brace against Union, Thomas Müller wasn’t that satisfied with his performance. And neither was Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.

Thomas Müller was given a chance to start for Bayern Munich against Union Berlin on Saturday and repaid the faith placed in him with two goals in the 5-1 win.

But despite getting on the scoresheet twice, the veteran wasn’t entirely happy with his performance.

“It wasn’t an easy game for me today. I wasn’t happy with the way I played,” Müller told Sky Germany.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel agreed – and apparently pointed this out to Müller after the 34-year-old was taken off.

“He said: The goals were great, of course, but unfortunately he also watched the rest of the game. Then we both laughed,” said Müller, describing the dialog between himself and the coach.

And Tuchel himself admitted as much in the mixed zone after the game:

“His form wasn’t good today. The goals were absolutely great, but the form wasn’t good.”

Tuchel also made it clear that Müller hadn’t shown enough to earn a starting spot in the first Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid on April 30.

“No. He knows that,” the Bayern coach said.

“He still has to earn it. He saw the game the same way.”
