Jamie Vardy ran the whole pitch to celebrate in front of the Bristol City fans after scoring for Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

The striker tucked home from the penalty spot in the second-half in a 1-0 win for the Foxes to put them at the top of the Championship.

But what appeased the Leicester fans at the King Power Stadium was Vardy’s celebration.

The former England international had been met with chants about his wife throughout the contest from the visitors.

There were renditions of “Jamie Vardy, your wife is a grass”, referring to Rebekah’s high-profile court case against Coleen Rooney.

So to get one back, Vardy raced across the King Power turf after scoring a penalty at the other end.

He ran the entire length of the pitch towards the away end of the stadium before celebrating.

It evoked memories of Emmanuel Adebayor, who famously sprinted from one end of the pitch to face the Arsenal fans in 2009 after scoring for Manchester City.

Like Vardy, the Togolese striker had been abused throughout the contest by the away fans, whom he used to play for.

And after scoring for City, there was no way Adebayor was not going to make the most of it – in what has become an iconic moment in Premier League history.

Leicester’s win over Bristol City has maintained their electric start to life in the Championship.

They have plans to immediately return to the top tier after getting relegated last season and are on course to do so.

They have 21 points from a possible 24 and sit atop of the table, level on points with high-flying Ipswich.

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca was full of praise for his side after taking all three points.

He said: “Perfect performance or almost perfect. Since minute one we dominated the game.

“We play on the opposite side and as I always said when they sit all their 10, 11 players in behind it’s never easy to find a goal but at the end we deserved it.

“To win every game is very important but especially today after two wins away was very important and also against a tough team.

“They were in a good moment at the end [of the first half] but as I said when you are playing there and you need to find a goal found in the second half it was very good.”
