Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has called for wholesale changes to the club’s playing personnel due to concerns over some players’ ‘character.’
The Red Devils have endured a disappointing season to date and languish in 13th in the Premier League and 15th in the Europa League. New coach Ruben Amorin, who will officially lead his first training session on Monday, has a big job trying to help Man Utd rise up the respective tables.
But more important than immediate results will be the long-term stability and success of the club. Man Utd have become notorious for splashing absurd transfer fees but with very little tangible success to speak of.

Man Utd have not won the Premier League or Champions League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and players have struggled to perform to the levels you would expect them to.
Smart transfers will, therefore, be imperative under Amorim, who won’t be quite as influential in bringing in fresh faces as Erik ten Hag was due to the club’s new recruitment structure.
Vidic calls for sales
Club legend Nemanja Vidic believes that Man Utd would do well to offload several of their players, though he did not mention specific names. The former centre-back questioned the ‘character’ of the side during an appearance on Sky Sports.
“We are all expecting more from them. Even now we have some fantastic players. I think my question is more about the characters, the resilience, being ready to compete, to give extra and compete week in week out.

“I remember when I was playing for Man Utd. Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans – I was thinking they were all coming to take my place. I was scared I was going to lose my place. And that’s normal. If I’m not performing well, they will bring in a new guy. No one had to tell me that.
“So a job needs to be done in the next few transfer windows. Not just players they are going to bring in, I think some players definitely have to try and find new teams. Sometimes you don’t need the best player in the world to play for your club, but you need the right character.
“If you want to play for the big clubs, competing for the trophies, you have to be consistent. And that’s not just down to quality, it’s down to mentality. That’s the key for me.”
