Anfield Watch understands that Virgil van Dijk will be staying with Liverpool. The Dutchman’s agent is currently telling interested parties that he’s no longer attainable.

Van Dijk’s current deal expires in June, of course, but the Reds have been working behind the scenes to tie him down. It now appears they’ve done that.

It is unknown, however, if a deal has actually been signed. The impression is that a deal could be done already, though it’s entirely possible that Liverpool and Van Dijk are at a stage where things are simply a formality.

Bar a bizarre late twist, though, Van Dijk will be staying with Liverpool. And that could be formally announced very soon.

Virgil van Dijk to sign new Liverpool contract

Van Dijk’s contract was always seen as the easiest to get done – by fans, anyway. The defender remains arguably the world’s best in his position and shows no signs of slowing down.

On top of that, his wage demands simply aren’t at the level of Mohamed Salah’s. It’s a more comfortable deal for Liverpool to get done.

And one that, naturally, the Reds are thrilled about. Van Dijk is the core member of Liverpool’s defence and one of the absolute most important figures in the team.

His form this season has been such that awards could be flowing come the end of the campaign. He’s adjusted flawlessly to life under Arne Slot, too, and is a massive part of Liverpool’s early success.

And with the good times rolling, Liverpool are set to offer yet another boost to fans with news of Van Dijk’s new contract.
