The new Champions League format is yet to be in action long enough to warrant a serious assessment of what the benefits and drawbacks are.

However, the major sides will certainly be measuring the increase in profit margins, with all of the big names guaranteed a minimum of two games against other European giants – an increase advocated for in The Superleague.

Chelsea’s clash with Barcelona certainly fits into that bracket at any rate, with the Catalan side due to visit Stamford Bridge on the 25th of November. The two sides had something of a rivalry during the 2000s, with a number of meetings in the Champions League knockout stages occurring, most famously ending in 2009 with a screamer from Andres Iniesta at Stamford Bridge, and in a breakaway goal for Fernando Torres at Camp Nou in 2011. Both sides went on to win the competition that year. If this clash can bring back memories of old, then it will certainly be worth watching.

How and Where to Buy Chelsea-Barcelona tickets for Champions League

Tickets will be at a premium for the clash, with Chelsea very much among the contenders following their World Club Cup triumph. One avenue to go down is to visit the official Chelsea website. However there will be limited availability, with all of their 28,000 season ticket-holders expected to be present, and around 2,000 to be ceded to Barcelona as per UEFA regulations. The Blaugrana will not release tickets on general sale, but instead cede the seats to Supporters’ clubs, meaning that unless you are already a member, there would be little to no chance of securing one. That can mean going to third-party ticket sale websites, such as Viagogo, or more trusted options like LiveFootballTickets.com can be appealing if you’re keen to get to the game. They provide a selection of seats ranging from the cheaper to the more expensive options, and with a clear indication of where you will be sitting and your view.

With the additions of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Estevao, Chelsea now have an array of options up front for manager Enzo Maresca to call on in different situations. In Cole Palmer, they have a star capable of winning matches at any point, and a midfield pairing of Caicedo and Fernandez holds up to any in European football. The ingredients are certainly there, and following their defeat of Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Chelsea have proven they can compete with anyone. However, it would be a major leap to go from Conference League Champions to Champions League winners in the space of a year.

The feeling in Barcelona is that they missed an opportunity last year, falling short of the final against Inter. This season it has been declared an objective by Lamine Yamal, and the Spain star, like Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde and Fermin Lopez, are a year older and wiser this time out.

However, Robert Lewandowski represents a major question mark up front, with the wisdom of the Polish veteran unlikely to outweigh the ageing process at this point. At the back, the loss of Inigo Martinez is a significant one, and Hansi Flick will have to inspire more from Andreas Christensen or Ronald Araujo to have more of a chance.
