Timothy Weah scored the equaliser for Juventus in a Champions League match against PSV, but the goal was allowed to stand only after a VAR check.

Weah’s equaliser in Juventus’ away game at PSV this evening was initially disallowed for a Lloyd Kelly offside in the build-up.

The English defender was marginally offside on a free-kick from the left but didn’t interfere with the play and didn’t even jump to get at the end of the cross.

Weah scored a rocket goal from the edge of the box on the rebound, but Slavko Vincic stopped his celebration as his assistant had spotted Kelly’s offside.

The incident required an on-field review: although Kelly was beyond the last PSV defender, the referee on the pitch should determine whether the Englishman interfered with the play.

Vincic ruled that Kelly’s position had no impact on the Juventus attack that led to the goal, so Weah’s goal stood.

PSV took the lead again later on through Ismael Salibari.
