Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov praised Spurs’ team effort for their second goal against Brighton.

A Timo Werner cutback inside of the Brighton area tee’d-up James Maddison, who cooly slotted past keeper, Bart Verbruggen, to make it 2-0.

The Werner assist was borne of good build-up play from striker Dominic Solanke, who had originally slid through Brennan Johnson to put Spurs up 1-0.

But Berbatov hailed the entire team effort from top to bottom, as a well-worked move began with a quick turnover from Spurs’ keeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

‘This is the perfect goal starting from the keeper,’ Berbatov said, speaking on Sky Sports. ‘Great composure. Timo Werner with the pass to Maddison.

‘Yes it was a mistake by the keeper but it was perfect.’

That makes it two goals in his last three Premier League appearances for James Maddison, which is as many as he’s scored in his past 28 league outings.

Tottenham led Brighton 2-0 away from home at the break, but two Brighton goals within ten minutes but the Seagulls back on parity at 2-2.

However, the game was totally flipped on its head as Danny Welbeck struck to put Brighton in the lead on the 66th minute, and seal what was an almost inconceivable win at half-time.
