Everton will finally usher in a new era on Thursday when The Friedkin Group officially become the club’s latest owners.

Having agreed a deal with Farhad Moshiri to buy his 94.1 per cent shareholding back in September, The Friedkin Group have been conducting due diligence in the months since and a formal announcement is expected at some point on Thursday.

Final checks on paperwork were being conducted on Wednesday night but no problems were envisaged and this represents a huge moment in Everton’s history after so much trouble and turmoil during the frivolous Moshiri era, in which financial largesse put them in trouble with the authorities and led to a points deduction last season.

Manager Sean Dyche, who correspondence with Moshiri in recent months has been limited to the odd call and WhatsApp messages, has not had any official discussion with Dan Friedkin, the American billionaire, but he and Director of Football Kevin Thelwell will have plenty to discuss about how to take Everton forward.

It is unclear whether Friedkin or any other members of the TFG consortium will be at Goodison Park on Sunday, for a hugely-important game against title-chasing Chelsea

Everton will move into a new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season, the one legacy Moshiri will leave that is positive.

The takeover comes with Everton lying in 15th place in the Premier League table, with Dyche’s side having won three top flight matches this season.

The Toffees are three points clear of the relegation zone and have a game in hand.
