Fans crack up as Sheffield United fan spotted reading book during 8-0 defeat by Newcastle

One Sheffield United fan has cracked fans up after TV cameras caught her reading whilst the Blades were hit for EIGHT by Newcastle.

The Blades have had a disappointing return to the Premier League so far, but the Magpies’ trip to Bramall Lane will certainly be one of the Yorkshire club’s lowest moments, as they suffered a 8-0 defeat.

Plenty of Blades fans had headed for the exit by the time the fourth and fifth goals went in.

But just after Newcastle netted their seventh goal, one fan perfectly summed up the mood inside Bramall Lane.

TV cameras showed a Sheffield United supporter sat reading a book in the stands, clearly having seen enough of her side’s collapse on Sunday evening.

“This woman has the right idea!” one fan said on X, commending the Blades supporter’s choice of back-up entertainment.

“Not the Sheffield United fan sitting there reading her book bless her,” another said.

A third added: “That old girl reading a book instead of watching Sheffield United is the highlight of the season by a distance.”

The 8-0 defeat is Sheffield United’s biggest margin of defeat at home in the club’s 134-year history.

They were also one goal away from recording the biggest Premier League defeat, which still stands at 9-0 – Southampton losing 9-0 to both Leicester and Manchester United.

Last season’s Championship runners-up are yet to win a game this season, losing five and drawing one of their opening six games. They are bottom of the table with just one point.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are first team in Premier League history to have eight different players score in a single game (excluding own goals) with Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak netting.
