Five strikers Arsenal could try to sign in January

The 2024-25 season was supposed to be the season where Arsenal made the final step and won the Premier League.

After successive second placed finishes, confidence was high that Mikel Arteta would finally turn his bridesmaids into brides.

But Arsenal’s title challenge has faltered in the first half of the season and they are currently languishing well behind league leaders Liverpool.

A big reason for that has been their impotence in front of goal. Only Bukayo Saka has consistently impressed in attack, while a natural midfielder in Kai Havertz has been forced to regularly play as the number nine.

As a result, Arsenal will look in the market in January to sign a natural striker.

Here are five possible options.

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan for the season from Napoli until June 2025.

It is a dry loan but there is a €75 million release clause in Osimhen’s contract that becomes active in January.

If Arsenal stump up the money they can sign the Nigerian, who is undoubtedly one of the best number nines in European football.

Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon)

Talking of release clauses, Viktor Gyokeres currently has a €100 million release clause in his Sporting contract.

Sporting will not accept a penny less before the summer so it will cost Arsenal a lot of money to sign the Sweden striker.

He could be worth the investment, though, after a ridiculous 2024 in which he has scored a barely believable 61 goals. There is strong interest from Man Utd, also.

Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus)

Juventus will listen to offers in January for Dusan Vlahovic as his contract expires in 2026 and renewal talks are making little progress.

Vlahovic is also the highest paid player in Serie A and Juve would like to get his wages off their books.

The Serbian is a long-term target of Arteta, who tried to sign him when he joined Juventus from Fiorentina for €80 million in January 2022. It has been suggested that Arsenal could offer Gabriel Jesus and cash in exchange for Vlahovic.

Randal Kolo Muani (PSG)

Randal Kolo Muani has made just three starts in Ligue 1 this season and talk of a January exit has been rampant in recent weeks.

It is expected that PSG will offload him in January if they get an acceptable offer for a player they paid €95m for in the summer of 2023. A loan deal could also be possible.

Arsenal have been regularly linked with the Frenchman and know he is available.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

Alexander Isak is more of a long shot for Arsenal as his contract expires in 2028 at Newcastle.

But with Newcastle needing to sell in order to balance the books to meet PSR requirements, Isak is someone they could sacrifice.

The Swede would not come cheap, though, as he is recognised as one of the best attackers in the Premier League. Like Gyokeres, he would cost close to €100m.
