Kevin De Bruyne failed to convert a glariing chance in the dying embers of Manchester City‘s 1-0 defeat by Tottenham on Friday.

The visitors got off to a fast start in the fourth-round FA Cup clash, but in search of a goal, brought on the Belgian playmaker in the 65th minue.

With ten minutes left on the clock and the scores at a goalless stalemate, Phil Foden would recover the ball inside the Tottenham penalty area before squaring the ball to De Bruyne stood just inside the 18-yard box.

With no one pressing on him, the Belgian, who has only recently come back from a lengthy injury spell, wound up a shot but sent it careering wide of the left upright.

City mustered another chance soon after from time when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg swung and missed at a cross from Bernardo Silva and Alvarez’s snap-shot was smothered on the line by Vicario.

The goal finally ended City’s their Spurs hoodoo after the Dutch defender netted their first ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City had never scored at Spurs’ new ground, losing all five of their previous games there dating back to 2018, with several misses and much drama attached to their drought, which had included more than 100 shots.

They had failed to break the deadlock in their FA Cup fourth round clash on Friday evening after having 17 attempts and it looked set to be a familiar story.
