Kobbie Mainoo may have scored a stunning winner in the 97th minute against Wolves on Thursday night, but he still managed to give a remarkably composed interview after the game belying his youth.

The academy product has been one of the few positives to take out of the current campaign for Manchester United fans, breaking into the first-team with some impressive displays in midfield this term.

His rapid rise continued apace on Thursday, after he rescued three points for his side who had spurned a 3-1 lead at Molineux in the Premier League clash, with a brilliant first league goal for the club.

Receiving the ball on the left with the scores locked at 3-3, the 18-year-old nutmegged one defender before jinking his way through four Wolves bodies before curling the ball into the far corner to win the game.

It was a thoroughly impressive first ever Premier League goal, but Mainoo showed great maturity and composure in his post-match interview, although he still admitted he hadn’t quite ‘come down from it’.

‘It’s a dream come true at such a tough place to come,’ the teenager told TNT Sports after the dramatic climax.

‘They’ve had a good home run here so we needed the win but I’ve still not come down from it – I still feel like I’m dreaming to be honest, so you’ll have to give me a second!’

He then added: ‘To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club has been amazing.

‘Now I’m just looking to get a good run of games and keep winning games, keep winning games and get a bit of momentum going.’

For his team-mate – and captain – the player’s potential has been evident for some time, as Bruno Fernandes revealed he had actually touted Mainoo to a friend a few years back

‘He’s a big talent. I’ve said it in the past, I saw him playing in the Under-18s two or three years ago.

‘I said to a friend in Manchester who wanted to see some youth games, I gave him the name of Kobbie without knowing he was going to be this talent or player.’

Following his impressive calm and collected interview with TNT, fans flocked to social media to hail the rising star’s temperament.
