Peter Crouch names the one current Tottenham player he would have taken in his Spurs team under Harry Redknapp… as the former striker insists he just ‘loves the way he plays’

Peter Crouch has revealed which current Tottenham player he would have loved to have had as a team-mate back in the day.

Crouch, 42, spent two hugely successful years with Spurs from 2009 to 2011, scoring 24 goals for the club.

He was part of Harry Redknapp’s side who qualified for the Champions League for the first time in Spurs’ history, netting the all-important goal in a crunch end of season clash with Man City in 2009-10.

They went onto reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition the following year, with Crouch netting seven times in 10 games during their memorable run.

And, speaking exclusively to Mail Sport on behalf of TNT Sports, who will show the midweek fixtures in the Premier League next week, Crouch was questioned on which current player from Ange Postecoglou‘s team he would have loved to have played with.

‘James Maddison is the one that sticks out,’ he said. ‘I just love the way he plays and he looks like he enjoys himself.

‘His delivery is first class and he’s someone I would’ve loved to have played with. Son as well (I’d have liked to play with).

‘But my team wasn’t too shabby. We had Gareth Bale one side, Luka Modric in the middle and Aaron Lennon on the right, with Rafael Van der Vaart behind me.

‘It was a decent side as well so I have no complaints.’

Maddison has been a revelation since joining Spurs from Leicester City in June for a £40m fee.

The attacking midfielder has scored three times and added six assists in just 11 Premier League appearances.

Such was his form that Maddison was also named the Premier League Player of the Month in August as he helped Spurs to start the season with a 10-match unbeaten run.

However, during a fateful 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on November 6 – which also saw Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie sent off, along with injuries to Brennan Johnson and Micky Van de Ven – Maddison was forced off in first half stoppage time with ankle ligament damage.

The 27-year-old, who has become a regular part of England squads over the past 18 months, has been absent ever since, but Postecoglou confirmed on Thursday he would return for their FA Cup fourth round clash with Man City on Friday.

Maddison is also officially the club’s vice-captain after impressing in pre-season, with the playmaker appointed by Postecoglou before he had even an appearance.

The Australian has had a similarly stunning impact since arriving in north London, with Spurs in fifth place and playing an entertaining brand of football that has rejuvenated the club.

They sit just three points off the Champions League spots despite dealing with a raft of absentees and injuries over recent months.

After the cup clash with City, they return to league action against Brentford and Everton next week.

TNT Sports will exclusively broadcast Premier League midweek fixtures from Tuesday 30th January to Thursday 1st February.
