1. FC Union Berlin have announced that chief scout Oliver Ruhnert will put his duties at the club “on hold” from January 2025.

In a short statement on Tuesday, Union revealed that Ruhnert has told the club’s board that he will be the top candidate on his party’s Berlin state list in the upcoming federal election.

From January, he will therefore devote himself fully to campaigning for the federal election, which is expected to take place on 23 February 2025.

Ruhnert, 53, has been with the Union since 2017. He was chief scout between August 2017 and May 2018, when he was appointed managing director for professional football. He left that role to return to the chief scout position last summer.
