Andrea Pirlo is reportedly an option for Sampdoria, who could sack head coach Leonardo Semplici with the team hanging dangerously above the relegation zone in Serie B.

Reports Pirlo could return to struggling Sampdoria

Sampdoria have endured a poor 2024-25 season after finishing seventh in the second tier last season. The Blucerchiati currently sit in 17th place with six wins, 14 draws and 11 losses from 31 matches, which leaves them level on points (32) with Reggiana in the relegation zone.

Pirlo had overseen the 2023-24 season in the Sampdoria hot seat, finishing seventh after relegation from Serie A the season prior. He was dismissed three games into the 2024-25 campaign with just one point from three matches.

However, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pirlo is now an option again for Sampdoria in the event that they sack Giampaolo in the comping days.

The Pink Paper suggests that the only reason Giampaolo is still in a job is because Sampdoria have not yet decided upon his replacement. There are reportedly three candidates in mind: Pirlo being one of them alongside Giuseppe Iachini and Aurelio Andreazzoli.
